Why Education Matters

Hedgehogs are not for everyone. As responsible breeder, our top priority is placing our babies into their forever homes.

If a hedgehog is being considered as a pet for a child or first time owner, we strongly encourage scheduling an educational appointment. Hedgehogs are typically a five-year commitment and require consistent, informed care for their entire lifespan.

Hedgehogs do not adjust well to rehoming, and transitions between homes can be highly stressful and harmful. These educational sessions help prevent impulse purchases by ensuring prospective owners understand the realities of ownership, daily care expectations, and whether a hedgehog is an appropriate addition to their household.

Book a $25 non-refundable session to meet and learn about our hedgehogs! This fee is deductible from your deposit if you decide to adopt or join the waiting list within one month of your visit.

Our educational appointments are 30 minutes long and are a great way to:

Hold and interact with a hedgehog

Ask any questions about care, housing, or the adoption process

To protect the health and well-being of our younger hedgehogs, only those labeled “Ready Now” will be available for handling and interaction.

What to Expect

During your one-on-one educational session, we can cover all aspects of basic African Pygmy Hedgehog care upon request, including:

Proper housing and enclosure setup
Heating and temperature requirements
Nutrition and feeding
Zoonotic concerns
Veterinary and medical care
Daily handling and realistic expectations
Q&A time

Our sessions are mainly dedicated for questions and getting familiar with handling to be sure a hedgehog is a good fit for your family. You can ask any and all questions—no matter how big or small.

Important Considerations

Hedgehogs are not hypoallergenic. They have fur and saliva, which are common allergy triggers. Reactions may range from mild skin irritation to severe responses such as anaphylaxis. If you are allergic to furry animals, it is very likely you will also react to a hedgehog.

Interaction Policy

All learning and exposure are handled through our educational appointments only. Appointments are held on our front porch at our home in Owasso.

Length: Approximately 30 minutes to an hour
Fee: $30 due at registration

✨ If you decide to reserve one of our hedgehogs, the session fee is applied as your deposit. This offer is good for 24 hours of the educational appointment. The adoption process must be completed before a hedgehog may be reserved. ✨

If you’re interested in a specific baby that’s not yet old enough to meet, please keep in mind: We can’t guarantee availability unless that baby is officially reserved after your session. Joining our waiting list or purchasing an available hedgehog requires completing the adoption process and providing proof of the necessary supplies before your hedgehog can go home.

Hedgehogs are undeniably uniquely charming, and it’s completely natural to be curious about them. Many people ask if they can visit just to “see” or “hold” a hedgehog. While we understand the curiosity, we are not a petting zoo and do not carry the licensing or insurance required to offer casual visits or hands-on interactions that a petting zoo requires. For this reason, we are unable to accommodate requests to simply come and look at hedgehogs.
